Leaders

From Cyber Culture News

As a rule Internet communities don't have leaders or representatives. When there is a leader or a representative it's a short lived position and only for a special reason.

As such if someone is said to be a leader of an Internet community it is best to ask for credentials.

Claimed leaders often fall into the following categories,

Contents

Respect

A person who is respected may be mistaken for a leader. Usually this person gives advice that is well received and/or aids the community in a cause near and dear to that community.
Examples of respected persons mistaken for leaders:
The Wise Beard Man
The Furry Guru

Wise Beard Man

The Wise Beard Man or WBM is a long term Scientology protester. When Anonymous took on Scientology WMB gave advice to Anonymous and Anonymous took that advice. WBM is well respected in Anonymous however he has no power or influence. A large number of Anonymous openly mock WBM and Torry Magoo. They can do this because WBM is not the leader of Anonymous.

Furry Guru

The Furry Guru or Furry Jesus is a well respected defender of the furry fandom. He openly defied those who mock the furry fandom and disproved every claim they make with available data.
He has earned the respect of the furries for this and has for some time given advice to furries.
For this reason he has been mistaken for the leader of the furries.

Malicious Label

A person may be labeled a leader for any number of reasons.
Often this label is done with malicious intent.

Examples of people labeled leaders maliciously:

Eric Bauman
Wolfee Darkfang

Eric Bauman

Eric Bauman is the owner of Ebaums world. Anonymous has disdain for Eric Bauman.
Because occasionally Anonymous will preform potentially illegal acts and targets will look for "the leader" of whatever happened Eric Bauman is used as a scapegoat.
The idea is Eric Bauman name is thrown out in hopes someone will bite. As a rule the illegal acts aren't and the crime itself is byproduct of a paranoid mind.
Anonymous aware of Eric Baumans deep pockets and legal staff know he is in a better position to defend himself against frivolous lawsuits than any given anon.

Wolfee Darkfang

Wolfee Darkfang once stopped an effort to hack into You Tube accounts held by furries.
In revenge a group suspected of initiating the attack calling themselves The Fried Chicken Trolling Crew called Wolfee "The Leader of the furries" and then proceeded to draw doubt about his character suggesting he is an unfit leader. Wolfee Darkfang denies all allegations and denies all leadership claims.

Fraudulent leader

Large (and often influential) Internet communities are tempting targets for those who desire power and influence.
People will claim leadership over an Internet community and attempt to turn that community into his or her personal army.

Examples of fraudulent leaders:
King Cancer
Felinoid

King Cancer

King Cancer claimed leadership over Anonymous after attacking same.
At first he threatened to take down Anonymous accusing Anonymous of various vague hate crimes.
Later he made a vague almost (but not quite) apologetic comment.
Anonymous made it clear it was not accepting a vague apology and demand a full apology.
King Cancer took offense and soon after claimed to be the leader of anonymous. He later claims the leaders of anonymous voted him in as the leader.

Felinoid

Felinoid claimed to be the leader of the nameFags mostly to mock King Cancer. Felinoid acknowledges his claim is fake.

Community Leader

On a rare occasion there is a respected community leader however the larger the community the less likely any one person has any true influence.

When a community has a single base of operations the owner of the home base is the community leader. This position is limited and temporary.

4Chan

At one time the owner of 4Chan (Moot) could be considered the leader of Anonymous. However he never exerted any real power over Anonymous. At one time Moot expressed his disdain for pranks calling them "The cancer killing /b/". Eventually Moot banned pranks from 4Chan this however did not stop Anonymous from continuing to preform pranks.
Because of this any influence Moot had on Anonymous is gone.

Furry Muck

At one time a ban from Furry Muck was seen as a ban from the furry fandom. This is no longer the case as the furry fandom is too large to consider Furry Muck the home of furry.
